I’ve heard the teamLab exhibit be called an “Instagram trap” before and since my visit. I suppose many people visit solely for the perfect picture to put on social media. But to reduce the exhibit as an instagram trap would be such a mistake. The engineering behind the installation is extraordinary - each performance is unique, and affected by how the audience interacts with the exhibit. There are multiple exhibits in Tokyo, and you have to make sure you buy tickets in advance, since it does sell out quickly.
I went to Japan in April of 2019. It had been a dream of mine to travel there, and impulsively (a privilege that does not escape me) I bought a plane ticket to Tokyo. I spent several days in Tokyo before taking a shinkansen to Kyoto. Japan was everything I imagined it to be and much more. I had heard, in one of the many travel videos I watched leading up to my visit, that a persons life can be divided into two parts: before they go to Japan, and after they go to Japan. Though hyperbolic a statement, I can’t help agree. Who I was before I went to Tokyo changed after. My job changed, my perspective changed, and my willingness to go outside my comfort zone changed. Expect a lot of Japan content, even if it’s already way into summer.
